How to Print From Your Phone for Seniors

You can print photos, emails, and documents directly from your phone โ€” no computer needed. Here's how to do it on an iPhone or Android.

โš ๏ธ First check: Your phone and printer must be connected to the same Wi-Fi network. If your printer is connected by USB cable to a computer, this method won't work.

๐Ÿ“ฑ Printing from an iPhone or iPad

iPhones use a feature called AirPrint to print wirelessly. Most modern printers (HP, Canon, Epson, Brother) support AirPrint.

  1. 1
Open what you want to print. This could be a photo from your Photos app, an email from your Mail app, or a webpage in Safari.
  2. 2
Tap the Share button. It looks like a box with an upward arrow pointing out of it. It's usually at the bottom of the screen.
  3. 3
Scroll down and tap "Print." You may need to scroll down in the list of options to find it.
  4. 4
Tap "Select Printer." Your iPhone will search for nearby printers. Tap your printer's name when it appears.
  5. 5
Choose how many copies you want with the plus (+) and minus (โˆ’) buttons.
  6. 6
Tap "Print" in the top-right corner. Your printer will start printing!
๐Ÿ’ก Don't see your printer? Make sure your printer is turned on and connected to the same Wi-Fi as your phone. Check the printer's screen or app to confirm it's on Wi-Fi.

๐Ÿค– Printing from an Android Phone

Android phones use the built-in Print feature, which works with most wireless printers.

  1. 1
Open what you want to print โ€” a photo, email, or document.
  2. 2
Tap the three dots (โ‹ฎ) or the Share button.
  3. 3
Tap "Print." A print preview screen will appear.
  4. 4
Tap the printer name dropdown at the top. Choose your printer from the list. If your printer doesn't appear, tap "Add printer."
  5. 5
Tap the Print button (it looks like a printer icon or a circle with a checkmark).
๐Ÿ’ก Printer not showing up? Download your printer's official app (e.g., "HP Smart," "Canon PRINT," or "Epson iPrint") from the Google Play Store. These apps make it easier to connect and print.

My Printer Won't Print โ€” Common Fixes

  1. 1
Restart your printer. Turn it off, wait 30 seconds, turn it back on.
  2. 2
Check both are on the same Wi-Fi. Your phone and printer must be on the same home network. Look at the Wi-Fi name on both.
  3. 3
Restart your router. Unplug it for 30 seconds, then plug back in. Wait 2 minutes.
  4. 4
Download your printer's app. HP Smart, Canon PRINT, Epson iPrint, or Brother iPrint&Scan make printing much easier from a phone.
